Built Like Alaska
was born in the sun-annihilated Central Valley of California between the Sierras and the Pacific, north of Modesto, south of nothing save winding road through rolling pasture and barely hills. Built Like Alaska's sound is intricacy, simplicity, nuance, and the familiar sound of songs you always knew existed. If that doesn't sound pretentious, listen to this. BLA's arrangements comprise of subtle rock, jazz-influenced chordings, alt-country teasings, well-choreographed bass and guitar, overlayed with smart droning modulation that is uber-keybaordia. Oh, and rockin' drums. Add in Neil's vocal, which has been described as both haunting and knee-buckling. BLA rocks but sometimes lullabies, whispers but sometimes bellows, makes you anxious and puts you at ease, but always delivers a great song. Listen.

This show will be BLA's cd release party for 'Hopalong', coming out on Grandaddy's new label Sweat of the Alps.
