Review by Jake Thomas

Lately, the crowds that have been at the shows I have attended have been somehow...off. I can't really explain it, but just when you think you have a band pegged for a certain crowd you get thrown for a loop by a bunch of randoms at the club you would never expect. Not that it really matters though, so long as the band is putting on a good show; and honestly, things have seemed off so often lately that I'm beginning to think it is me and not them.

And speaking of a band putting on a good show, Calla did just that. Most noteworthy to me was that they performed ìTelevisedî and ìStranglerî from their third album ìTeleviseî, which is one of the best records to come out in the last five years if you're keeping score at home. Most of the rest of the material was off of their last couple of releases, both good albums but nowhere near as awesome as ìTeleviseî. Their songs have a power to them live that will probably never translate to the recordings, and seeing Calla perform live is the very reason you leave the house to see live music in the first place, strange crowds be damned.
