Make-Out Room

We grabbed some SatanSteak* from Jay's Cheesesteak and brownbagged it over to the Make-Out Room shindig for the Doc's Clocks benifit.

We haven't really had a chance to see Paula Frazer since NoisePop. Lest you take this local heroine for granted, we wanted to point out that it seems she's acquired some sort of superpower that enables her to sing *even higher* notes than she did before. And beatifully. How does she do that?!

Speaking of local heroes, Mr. Virgil Shaw seriously tore it up with selected old favorites and a big ol' slew of new songs from his upcoming album, "Still Falling". He was joined as ever by the multi-talented (and perhaps multi-armed) Marc Capelle on keys, Matt Hall providing guitar-like support, the illustrious Aaron (Smokey) Burtch on drums, and the effusive K.J. Fairchild on guitar at just the right moments. Fantastique!

Ah...Granfaloon Bus. We love them. And not just because they had the best selection of t-shirts in town. The Magic Bus took us on a happy mellow turn through their world, and we were all the better for it. Strange thing is, Gbus' pretty music belied what dangerous, dangerous men they are. We can't believe they were allowed back into the country after that European Tour. 'Nuff said. Now please go and buy their Future Farmer release, "Exploded View". It has fantastic cover art! Plus, Ajax needs the money.

Phew! We decided that it'll be a cold day in hell before Mark Eitzel walks onstage and bores us. Never one to mince words, Mark repeatedly inquired "Who in the audience wants to snort lines off my cock after the show?!" Indeed. And where there was drugs and sex, there was also...more sex! A scantily clad stripteaser, in a huge cavegirl wig, no less! Yeah! But before you calling 1-976-M-EITZEL, we should warn you that the emphasis of his set was still music, mostly new selections like Snowbird, a track off his new album "Courage and Confidence". There were also a few nods to the past with 'Proclaim Your Joy' and one of his favorite covers, which also appears on C&C, "Help Me Make It Through The Night". We were just happy that (most) everyone stayed clothed throughout the set. Hey, we're liberal, but we've got a "pants on" policy at shows. Really!

San Francisco's Devil-Ettes aren't just a troupe of naughty go-go dancers: they've quite literally sparked a global reaction. When Daz was a member of their troupe, people really hadn't seen anything like them. Now there's hardly a person who hasn't seen a dance troupe of some kind, thanks to huge events like Las Vegas Grind and Tease-o-Rama. Daz even encountered a member of a troupe from the UK that took their inspiration from the Devil-Ettes. The ladies didn't disappoint with a display of some of their signature routines, plus some cool new moves that got the jaded crowd a screamin'. We wish they'd dance on the bar at the Hemlock again! But that's just us.

*okay, okay, so it's seitan, a soy meat substitute. But if you're seeing the Devil-Ettes...
